An immersive exhibition and installation, Nomads of Persia sets the tenor for the NYC “voyage”. The installation inhabits a Tribeca building space at Salomon Arts Creative Studio.
Work on print + canvas sets the scene weaving textile production into a new performative whole – draped within immersive sound + video integrations and coupled with a generative AI experiment. It engages with the endangered heritage of Persian tribal cultures disrupting established narratives from a position of exile. In combination with the nomadic heritage of the artist’s fatherland, FFF presents Nomads of Persia in multi-format form through textile, print, paint, video, sound and AI-powered digital material.

Paintovers Juncture Gallery Lincoln Center Dec 10 – 12
Working with found/archival material through the process of “paintover” has been a hallmark of the artist’s work. Showing as a 3-day pop-up exhibition in the Furman Gallery of the Lincoln Center, Camilla FarmanFarmaian’s Saint Tropez based juncture Gallery presents fresh units of these “paintovers” related to his new Nomads of Persia collection. A series of talks on related themes (eg. nomadic displacement; Spiritual Romanticism) will run parallel to the exhibition.

The Varanasi Editions debuts three large works from the artist’s collection of limited-edition textiles made from hand-loomed wool and silk produced in Varanasi, India. As a follow-up to the FarmanFarmaian’s GATES OF TURAN installation presented at the 59th Venice Biennale, the artist engages with a transformative interpretation of traditional nomadic iconography. FarmanFarmaian’s textiles bring a contemporary perspective to the 600-year-old hand-knotting techniques developed in Central Asia, Iran, and Northern India by abstracting geometric motifs.
A complete body of work in its own right, the exhibition also serves in part as a preview of FarmanFarmaian’s latest project NOMADS OF PERSIA, an immersive large-scale mixed-media installation that blends textile, video, and sound. NOMADS OF PERSIA delves into the rich traditions and history of endangered Iranian nomadic tribes — the Bakhtyari and the Qashqai — drawing a parallel between the instability of their contemporary existence and the artist's own experience of exile.

Following the success of Firouz FarmanFarmaian’s Kyrgyz Pavilion at the 59th La Biennale di Venezia in 2022, the artist will mark the 2 year anniversary of his GATES OF TURAN Installation with the private screening of SHIMMER ( ASTRAL NOMAD EDIT ) at Galleria Itinerate situated just off the Ponte dell’ Accademia, Venice.
Previously premiered at the Istanbul Mediation Biennale ( November 2023 )in collaboration with Italian curator Valentina G. Levy, the film was originally created for the Kyrgyz Pavilion on the occasion of the 59th Biennale Di Venezia as part of Firouz FarmanFarmaian's GATES OF TURAN Postribal exhibition in a 1:45’ version. The final 16:57’ version SHIMMER ( ASTRAL NOMAD EDIT ) will show in Venice for the first time to align with a limited edition NFT release in partnership with espace, a Dubai based art agency and dynamic gallery. Screening will be followed by a talk moderated by Valentina G. Levy and a reception deploying a selection of the artist's textile production.

A connect at the 59th Biennale di Venezia led to an exchange with rug producer Amir Art Collection and the exploration of creative routes into rug making techniques and towards the production of the inaugural FFF art rug series, the Contemporary Nomads Collection.
Launched in Varese Italy in October 2023 the Contemporary Nomads Collection has featured on Parallel Vienna and Berlin Art week while showing in London and Venice through March 2024.
